Just before sunrise, families from across Metro Manila, Cavite, and nearby provinces started arriving at Lancaster New City for the highly anticipated Grand Family Weekend last Sunday, April 23.
Even before the activities began, most of the participating families and barkadas started their bonding by eating their packed breakfast at the parking area and doing basic stretching to warm up for the fun run.
The Family Fun Run, which featured 3K, 5K, and 10K races, started at 5:30 a.m. Although the sky was cloudy at first, the participants brightened up the atmosphere with their enthusiasm coupled by big smiles on their faces.
Geared with race bibs and singlets, runners from all ages successfully finished their respective runs and earned their finisher’s medals.
Among them is 55-year-old Roger Igangan, who finished the 3K run.
“Sa ganitong paraan mapupuwersa ang sariling mag-exercise,”he quipped while looking at his gold finisher’s medal, which will add to his growing collection.
Leslie Reyes, 26, brought her whole gang to run with her. According to her, running is one of the best ways to de-stress from her 9-5 office routine.
“Gusto talaga namin ang fun run para ma-exercise at matanggal ang stress,” she said.
After the fun run, the finishers cleared the track to give way to the duathlon participants. The duathlon featured a 3 km run-20 km bike-3 km run course, which is perfect for those who have stronger endurance.
The duathlon racers raced around the perimeter of the 1,600-hectare township development, marveling at the scenic views and lush vegetation around Lancaster New City.
Then, finally, the sun began to shine as the Family Fair Village opened.
The Family Fair Village consisted of three major events: SpectaculaRUN which allowed participants to experience a life-size obstacle course complete with an inflatable slide; the Larong Pinoy which featured different Philippine games such as patintero and tumbang preso; and the Kids’ Zone where children got to experience face painting and balloon twisting activities.
The fun run and duathlon winners were also announced during the family fair.
After enjoying their lunch from BAGA Manila and restaurants located at the new retail buildings of The Square, most participants of the Grand Family Weekend headed to the township development’s church and celebrate their small victories as one big family.
“This is one of my best weekends so far,” says Irene Ignacio, who brought her whole family to Lancaster New City to spend their Sunday morning.
The Grand Family Weekend is just one of the 10 big events lined up at Lancaster New City for its 10th anniversary celebration.
Dubbed as one of the most family-friendly developments south of Metro Manila, Lancaster New City offers families a wide range of homes in a peaceful community where they can live, learn, work, play, and pray.
